So, in a short period of time, we lost Tony Hillerman, Studs Terkel and Michael Crichton. Borders has a banner ad for Crichton and is pushing his books via their newsletter. I suppose it's a matter of taste, but we don't do Crichton, while I daresay every Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee mystery has wandered through our doors at least twice. Terkel belonged to a breed that we are unlikely to see again, the times have just flat changed, but I hold tight to the afternoon I spent at the Billy Goat Tavern listening to him and Mike Royko hold court. My favorite is Working, or heck, anything else he wrote about his favorite topic, regular people.
