Now, for something completely different
On Sunday, I met some women I knit with.

We drove to Eau Claire.

Anne, Shari, Dixie (Yellow Dog Yarn) and Betty.

Yes, THAT Shari, knitter of the One True Sweater which she knit for ME!

We met more knitters.

Chris, Jeanne, Deb, your hostess, and Vicki. We had intended to meet at the Acoustic Cafe which is kitty-corner from the yarn shop, but we ended up meeting in the yarn shop, of course. We met a lot of other knitters, notably CursingMama and the non-knitting Mr. Motorcycle.

We bought yarn, we ate, we talked, we knit. Make sure you take a moment to see the glorious Fib sweater. We walked two blocks to the Masonic Hall. Vicki and I got there first. No really. The nice man was just unlocking the doors. Then, we set up chairs. Then we knit some more. Then I had a knitting fiasco - the second sock, 5 inches long, was not striping the same as the first. 72 stitches, not 66. It's good to have friends to rip out the needles because you are an idiot. I frogged. I muttered. Mr. Motorcycle laughed. I cast on again. Cindyb helped commiserate and I can't find a link to her!

Then, she was there. She spoke. I laughed, I cried. We went back to the shop and got books signed. I had printed out all the Olympic Knitting buttons I could find as a poster, for Stephanie.

I even got to hold.... The Sock...

I know I've forgotten to mention really neat knitters I met and talked with. It was really really fun.

Can we do it all again soon, please?

Yes! More beer, more yarn. Maybe sometime like February when we all need serious pick-me-up time? Far enough away to plan something fun.

Hello!
What a gorgeous shawl you knit and wore to this - and lots of pictures!

It was nice to meet you, however briefly! It was a fun evening, wasn't it?

It was very nice to meet you and your beautiful family, particularly your very well-behaved children. Grace was too precious for words, and I had deep deep hoodie envy when I saw what she was wearing. Honestly, I think we've met before, but I can't place it.

Which blog should I friend?

My knitting blog is no longer on LJ - it's http://mikknit.mikk.net

I don't know if there's an LJ feed for it, but I could certainly create one.

there is now, mikknit1 in case anyone asks
Red eyed and blue[info]jessikate on September 12th, 2006 07:07 pm (UTC)
Oh, and thank you for the compliments! I didn't think the kids were particularly well-behaved, but that's probably because I'd wanted to leave them home with my husband instead of bringing everyone with me ;-)

I want a sweater just like the ones the kids have (did you see that they had matching sweaters? I'm such a dork!), and I'm swatching cables for something but it'll be nowhere near as cute as theirs are!
beadslut[info]beadslut on September 12th, 2006 08:57 pm (UTC)
I didn't notice that actually. I'm certain it was due to my lust for red, and also for cables. Perhaps Grace's altitude, as well, on daddy's shoulders, she was way taller than me. I would love to upsize that pattern, but I wouldn't look near as cute in it.
Red eyed and blue[info]jessikate on September 12th, 2006 09:04 pm (UTC)
I don't think anyone has half a chance of being as cute as Grace in that sweater - she knows how to wear it! ;-) Oh for a chance to be that cute again... she's just like I was as a kid, except healthier.

Thanks for creating the LJ feed - I'll have to make note of it.

Thanks on both accounts. It was wonderful to meet you and to have the opportunity to ogle that gorgeous yarn of yours.

You know what I did? I''m such a moron.... I didn't include the buttons _I_ made. They were in a different directory. What a dope....

Soon. Real soon. We don't need a reason, after all.

We didn't meet (I found you through [info]jessikate), but it's fun to read yet another account of the day! :)

It was fun to read yours as well - nice to "meet" you now, anyway.

Awesome poster of the olympic buttons... I came here through the Harlot's website...

Now, I must ask though, how the heck did you get those buttons to appear on the right side of your screen? How the heck do you get buttons to appear on LJ like that???!!?!?? :)

Thanks! It seemed like it needed to be done.

It's the beauty of the Flexible Squares layout. here is the code for my theme layer http://www.livejournal.com/customize/advanced/layersource.bml?id=6123224

I had tons of help from afuna and darklyscarlett at http://community.livejournal.com/s2flexisquares/profile

I'm a paid account, that might make a difference.

ooooh, I can't see the poster properly but it looks great! Did you get the NZ buttons on there?
beadslut[info]beadslut on September 21st, 2006 01:45 pm (UTC)
I did, indeed. Every blessed button I could find. Including Team Costa Rica and its lone member :-)

Nice poster!
(Came here from Yarn Harlot's blog.)

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I really love reading about the gathering of knitters across the county. It tickles me.

I love the poster! Any chance you have that image somewhere?
