A number of weeks ago, We had Odin in for his annual vet visit. Teeth cleaning and this and that. He has what looked like a cyst on his ear.

I asked that they send it for biopsy. Stage I mast cell tumor.

The vet knew a vet at the U, and we quickly had an appointment for October. Within an hour, they called with a cancellation for September 26. We took it.

They took half his ear, and it had advanced to Stage II.

Stitches are out and he has a clean bill of health. although I suspect he has some self-esteem issues.

University of Minnesota, thank you for my dog.

Sad I didn't do Big!Bang this year, but am reaping the benefits of being able to read. Good job, everyone!

I defaulted on Big Bang. So.....

03 May 2015 @ 09:09 pm
Is infinitely better than last year, save for a number of things that will continue to play out.

I defaulted on Big!Bang this year, and I am really sad about that, but it can't be helped. It's all on me; over-committed and under resourced as per usual. Cheerleading now for everyone who did not procrastinate too long.

Which resulted in a very terrible plot rhino.

My brain, welcome to it.

We had to have mom's old place cleaned out by today.

I have abandoned boxes of conversational language books, french, spanish, russian. Gardening never stood a chance. Himself and I had a huge argument about cookie sheets.

I'm done. Toast. Surely I have left behind the treasure of the Sierra Madre, but I just can't anymore.

Do not hoard. Someone will have to cull and discard when you are gone.

*looks at yarn stash*

OTOH, I have rescued the silver backed brushes, comb and mirror that were given to my mother's mother on the occasion of her wedding. Now, what do I DO with them?

ETA: $29 buy it now on ebay. Why did I kill myself over this stuff?

This weekend, moved my mom into an assisted living facility. At 95, she's had a great run. She can't see much, hearing drastically impaired and memory intermittent at best. She is happy. Three meals, ice cream, snacks and medication supervised. Stress level dropping.

They come and get her for meals, make her bed, give her baths/showers. Yes, it is costing us a kidney. Other than quitting my job to take care of her there is no option.

We make the most practical choices we can, and we live with them.

I am so far behind, I will never be caught up.

Moving my mom into assisted living is eating my brain and my time.

I am beading again :-)

Knitting is a giant UFO pile.

I ... um ... signed up for J2SPNBigBang.

For years, you've seen me natter about going to Wincon in October. It's an annual event, the convention of my heart. I've had the opportunity to meet some of you, hug you, drink with you, stay up too late, and talk about things fannish. I would really like to do it again, and to do that, Wincon needs your help. The indiegogo campaign to help finance the con is reaching its end date without reaching its goal.

If you are interested in supporting their ongoing mission to bring together a diverse group of internet-based media fans in an inclusive environment to engage in fannish activities and foster meaningful connections, go here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/wincon-2015

Wincon provides programming created and led by attendees, on topics drawn from a variety of sources and involving everything from detailed meta to wildly creative fanworks, encompassing all aspects of fandom culture.

I've donated. I've also donated an item to the fund-raising side, so if Wincon doesn't interest you, but shiny things do, you can buy this at the link above.

Wow, that sold already!

Your donation in any amount would be most appreciated.
